Anybody who knows me knows that I take it personally when I actually do get sick. Usually, I am down and out for 6 weeks with a sinus and chest infection even when I get the slightest of colds. Since I have been on my natural health “kick”, I have successfully fought off any sort of infection that might require antibiotics, but I have had a head cold a few times.
Head colds still allow me to function, even though it is gross and feels terrible. The most frustrating thing about it is not being able to breathe, and to have such a sore nose from blowing / wiping it. As I usually get pretty cranky if I get sick, this time around, I figure this was the perfect opportunity for me to do some trials with my eucalyptus essential oil.
I started with a shea butter nose balm. Not sure what the actual marketable name will be, but it is similar to Baby Bum Balm – with the addition of some stuffy-nose-clearing essential oils, and it made my nose feel oh so soothed. I would rather use all natural ingredients on my skin, than some of that non-nourishing non-breathable Vick’s petroleum jelly stuff that can lock in bacteria in the skin and prevent it from breathing.
The other thing I made was stuffy-nose-clearing smelling salts. I was miserable anyway, so I figured I had to try it. And wouldn’t you know … it worked!! I don’t know if there is a market for smelling salts or not, but I may just create it as a product in the store, if people want it.
So, how do you feel when you have a head cold? Would you use smelling salts to help clear your stuffy nose? Would you love to have some soothing nose balm on hand? Let me know …
